Fact About Christianity

Mythology's Last Gods: Yahweh and Jesus by William N. Harwood,

Mythology's Last Gods: Yahweh and Jesus by William N. Harwood,
More than 100 years ago historians began applying critical methods of documentary analysis to the Judaeo-Christian Bible. To scholars who had hoped to prove the Bible's authenticity, the results were traumatic. One by one the various books of the Bible were discovered to contain errors of fact; inaccurate guesses; rationalizations; prophecies ex post facto, usually combined with prophecies of the future that proved inaccurate; and unmistakable, deliberate lies. Such was the power of the churches that, despite the publication of thousands of scholarly books and articles refuting every part of the Judaeo-Christian Bible, to this day the existence of unchallengeable proof that the Bible is a work of fiction is unknown to ninety percent of the population of Christian-dominated societies. For a century this information has been available only to students willing to wade through dozens of books, each of which deals with only one aspect of Judaeo-Christian mythology. It is hoped that, by bringing together information on the origin and development of every part of the Yahweh- and Jesus-myths, this book will make the facts available to a large enough segment of the population to end the equation of god-mythology with history permanently. Dr. Harwood became interested in the history of Judaeo-Christian mythology when, as an undergraduate at Calgary, he was assigned to write a research paper on "Mystery Religions in the Early Roman Empire", and discovered that the god-eating ritual in which he participated weekly as a believing Christian had existed three thousand years before Jesus' birth. Not for three years, however, could he fully abandon the disproved beliefs to which he had been emotionallycommitted, and acknowledge that gods are as imaginary as fairies.

The Resurrection of the Son of God: Christian Origins and the Questions of God by N. T. Wright,
The Resurrection of the Son of God: Christian Origins and the Questions of God by N. T. Wright,
Why did Christianity begin, and why did it take the shape it did? To answer this question -- which any historian must face -- renowned New Testament scholar N. T. Wright focuses on the key points: what precisely happened at Easter? What did the early Christians mean when they said that Jesus of Nazareth had been raised from the dead? What can be said today about this belief? This book, third in Wright's series Christian Origins and the Question of God, sketches a map of ancient beliefs about life after death, in both the Greco-Roman and Jewish worlds. It then highlights the fact that the early Christians' belief about the afterlife belonged firmly on the Jewish spectrum, while introducing several new mutations and sharper definitions. This, together with other features of early Christianity, forces the historian to read the Easter narratives in the gospels, not simply as late rationalizations of early Christian spirituality, but as accounts of two actual events: the empty tomb of Jesus and his "appearances." How do we explain these phenomena? The early Christians' answer was that Jesus had indeed been bodily raised from the dead; that was why they hailed him as the messianic "son of God." No modern historian has come up with a more convincing explanation. Facing this question, we are confronted to this day with the most central issues of the Christian worldview and theology.

Fundagelical - A portmanteau of Fundamentalist and Evangelical. It highlights the fact that Evangelical Christianity in the United States evolved from Fundamentalist Christianity and has much more in common with fundamentalism than it does with evangelical movements in the eighteenth or nineteenth century or with evangelicalism in Europe.

Moral Majority - The term Moral Majority refers to the concept that there are often informal subgroups within many larger nations that pursue a strict moral agenda, usually based upon a deep belief in a religion, such as Christianity, Islam, or Judaism. Such people often perceive themselves to be, or act as, the custodians or representatives of the culture's values, although they may in fact be a small minority of the people, and their views may therefore be given disproportionate emphasis in the news and other media, and in politics and other social decisions made by the government.

Tentmakers - Tentmakers are Christian ministers who, while pursuing their ministry on a volunteer basis, derive all or most of their income from another occupation. The term comes from the fact that the Apostle Paul is described in the New Testament book of Acts as having been an active tentmaker even as he travelled the Roman Empire during the first years of the Christian Era in pursuit of converts to Christianity.
