Grand Strand Vacation

The more than seventy-five clubs located in what is known as Carolina's Grand Strand play host to more than 8,200 rounds of golf daily! With so many courses to choose from, even locals face the difficult derision of where to play -- it is literally a case of so many courses and so little time. Here, author Tommy Woodrum, a resident of the Grand Strand, helps make the decision an easier one for every golfer living in or visiting the area. The clubs are profiled in depth, complete with layouts and score-cards. Additional useful information includes addresses, telephone numbers, course architects, and the years the courses opened. Course and slope ratings are also provided to help shave strokes off your score. Tommy Woodrum's love of the game has always been a significant part of his life. His special golf outings include his family's annual golf tournament, talking to the fairways with Grand Strand course designers, and regular trips to Scotland to discover new courses and new challenges. A golf correspondent for the North Myrtle Beach Times, he also hosts the nationally syndicated weekly television show "Grand Strand Golf with Tommy Woodrum".

Wide beaches, warm surf, and abundant wildlife ignited a resort phenomenon that now offers world-class hotels, dining, shopping, entertainment, and recreation. This volume retraces the area's progression from Myrtle Beach's humble beginning in 1901 through the middle years of the 20th century to beyond 1954, when Hurricane Hazel crushed the Grand Strand and determined owners rebuilt their resorts with strength and grandeur.
